"We made our way church to church with a similar pattern. We would survey the damage, pray with the people and encourage them. We would then give out medication to those in need and conclude by encouraging the children with balloons and smiles." - CSI at work...

Myanmar Cyclone

5/5/2008

Early Saturday morning tropical Cyclone Nargis hit the Southeast Asian country of Myanmar, also known as Burma. Winds up to 120 mph blew roofs off hospitals, schools and homes. Current estimates are that nearly 4,000 people were killed. Early reports that we have received show some damage to churches and homes causing many saints to leave their homes and seek shelter elsewhere.

We received word from Superintendent Buai via missionary Frizzell of the following:

“There is extensive damage to the buildings at the compound and the wall on the right side has collapsed. Mercy Home Orphanage: The cyclone that hit Yangon tore the roof off of the building that the kids were living in at this time. The kids were moved out and are in several homes in the area. The area of the orphanage was flooded and the waters are now receding. We need to repair the roof of the house quickly so the children may move back into their home. We do not know how much we will need for the repairs because the construction suppliers and workers have not opened their business yet.”

CSI has already responded by sending immediate funds. We will assess the situation and if necessary send in medical teams as well as disaster recovery teams. Please help us by praying for the nation of Myanmar and by sending in your contribution so that we can send more assistance.

We will update our website as information becomes available.
